Kline scoops top HIV award

Professor Mark Kline got the shock of his life when he scooped the best achievement in paediatric HIV treatment and care on the African continent dubbed "Botho award".

Kline was left speechless for a moment after he received the award from former president Festus Mogae at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) last week.

The award is the Baylor International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) Network Award and it was held in conjunction with the Botswana-Baylor Children's Clinical Centre of Excellence fifth anniversary celebration. Kline, who is the founder and president of BIPAI, recalled how they have come a long way in the past five years and how critics said that Africans would not take up treatment, even if it was made available.
