Khama was right to attack Malema - Moathodi

Deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Pono Moathodi, has defended President Ian Khama for attacking suspended African National Congress Youth League president, Julius Malema, at a political rally in Old Naledi in 2010.

He said Khama, as a leader of Botswana and father, had every right to speak against Malema's unruly behaviour towards his elders.  "The President is a national figure, a father, and deserves a right to reign in Malema or question his behaviour," he said.

Khama reportedly made comments during the rally that Malema lacks discipline.  Malema was suspended last month on charges relating to bringing the ANC into disrepute, one of which emanated from his announcement that the ANCYL would set up a command centre in Botswana in future to effect regime change.
