Khama to attend SADC Summit in Kinshasa

President Ian Khama will attend the next Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Summit in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo next week. The 29th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government will be held from September 7 to 8.

"Yes, His Excellency is expected to attend the summit and will probably be accompanied by the Acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning Kenneth Matambo, the Minister of Trade and Industry Neo Moroka and maybe the Miniser of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phandu Skelemani and with senior government officials," the Coordinator of the Government Communications and Information Service, Dr Jeff Ramsay, confirmed yesterday. 

Among others, the summit is expected to discuss the political situation in the SADC region, especially in Madagascar and Zimbabwe. At a press briefing last week, addressed by the Executive Secretary of SADC Dr Tomaz Salomao, it was not clear who would attend the summit between Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
