Khama rejects meeting with BDP MPs

President Ian Khama declined a meeting with members of parliament from his ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) yesterday, Mmegi is reliably informed.

According to one MP, who preferred anonymity, while Khama refused to meet the MPs saying that he has a tight schedule, he demanded to meet only one of them. "He demanded to meet one of us, and not the 12 who had requested the meeting," said the MP.

According to the source, the purpose of the meeting was to inform Khama about the outcome of the MPs Monday meeting with the unions who are demanding reinstatement of the dismissed essential workers; that government should not implement the "No work No pay" policy. The unions had told the delegation of MPs that they were prepared for talks once these two demands were met.
