Khama Disappoints Villagers

MATHANGWANE: Residents of Mathangwane were disappointed last Friday when Vice-President Ian Khama arrived in the village by road contrary to expectations that he would come in a military aircraft. The old men and women of Mathangwane who had gathered to see the son of Seretse Khama, the founding president kept looking at the sky in expectation that their hero would arrive in a chopper. However, the VP travelled to the village by road after landing 30 km away at Francistwon airport to address a political rally.

As if they were rehearsing for Khama's arrival, some old women clad in the red, black and white colours of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), would occasionally burst into ululations. When they finally took up their seats in the small marquee tent where Khama addressed the BDP faithful, it was evident that they were disappointed that there was no plane.

One old man who had just alighted from his bicycle confused many that he said he had overheard some party elders say that Khama's chopper was just about to land near the rally place.
