Khama declares election day a holiday

President Ian Khama has announced that this year's general elections will be held on October 16.

Following the announcement, the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Margaret Nasha said the election day will be a public holiday. The nomination day will be September 18. Political parties, NGOs and members of the public have reacted differently to the announcement.

Independent Election Commission (IEC) spokesman, Officer Osupile Maroba, confirmed that preparations are ongoing to have IEC officers cast their votes before the election day.
