Kgatleng 'Ma-Domi' smoke peace pipe

The Botswana Democratic Party Kgatleng East constituency held elections of the constituency committee commonly known as the branch committee over the past weekend.

The elections reflected the spirit of President Festus Mogae's warning against factionalism.
During the run-up to the Ghanzi congress at which Ponatshego Kedikilwe lost the chairmanship to Vice President, Ian Khama, Kgatleng East, openly led by its former MP, Isaac Davids, supported Kedikilwe.
The elections held last Saturday at Dikwididi Community Hall saw members of both factions drawn into the branch committee with its chairperson as former MP, Isaac Davids.
Davids defeated his rival during the last 'bulela-ditswe' elections, Sebastian Mokate Maakwe by 66 votes to 27.
After the announcement of the chairmanship results, a delegate moved out of the hall and said: "The factions will not end if we continue like this".
It seems the woman wanted Maakwe to have won the contest.
Although there was a lobby list circulating from the faction associated with Jacob Nkate, the faction associated with Kedikilwe showed that it wanted peace and refused to vote along factional lines.
J. Winter of the Nkate faction won the post of secretary, whilst both factions struck a balance by sharing subsequent positions.
"The delegation to the July congress comprises of eight members drawn from both factions with four members each.
"We are committed to unite and take a united BDP to 2009 general elections," said a delegate who preferred anonymity.
The BDP is heading for its July congress in Molepolole where the election of the central committee will take place.
The 10-member delegation will determine who will become the next secretary general between Nkate and Gomolemo Motswaledi.
This is a fiercely contested post since the incumbent secretary-general will not seek re-election.
The spirit of unity carried over to Mogobane on Sunday were elections for a new regional committee where held.
The incumbent Kgatleng West councillor, Gilbert Mangole returned to his seat unopposed.
The members of the committee are Shokwe Molefe (vice chairperson), Atheist Fologang (secretary), Dr. P Molefe (vice secretary), Banyenyi Davids (treasurer) and Rev. Mpho Moruakgomo (vice treasurer).
As happened in Kgatleng East elections, the regional committee also shared positions across factional lines.
Also present were leading contender for the secretary-general position, Gomolemo Motswaledi, and Kabo Morwaeng who is eyeing the deputy secretary general position. They will face Jacob Nkate and Kentse Rammidi.
