SELEBI-PHIKWE: Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Shaw Kgathi has dismissed allegations that government plans to relocate Lentswe-Le-Moriti residents. The Bobirwa MP said those who are making such claims are engaged in political mischief.

"What has been said is that residents of Lentswe-Le-Moriti are staying in a freehold area, hence they are unable to access government assistance programmes like the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD) and services," he said. He explained that it was suggested that if the residents want to benefit from government services, they can move outside the freehold area. "I heard it in political rallies. Even the former area MP, James Maruatona has been saying it for the 15 years he was been in Parliament and you may wonder how those people have been surviving? I do not want people to sensationalise the issue."

He claimed that a few people in Bobirwa want to gain political mileage from the issue by peddling falsehoods. He regretted that people tend to get confused when the issue of trans-frontier conservation area is mentioned. Such people translate this to mean that relocations are underway. "As far as I am concerned, the village is there and developments are ongoing as planned, for instance electricity installation in Lentswe-Le-Moriti is in the pipeline."
