Kgafela retrenches staff

Bakgatla deputy chief, Bana Sekai has announced that Kgosi Kgafela II has retrenched some of his administrative staff at his office.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting held at the Bakgatla capital over the weekend, Sekai said Kgafela took the decision because his office does not have enough funds to pay the workers.  "There is no need to hide this. What you should understand is that there are insufficient funds to pay workers' salaries," he told the Mochudi Kgotla.

Sekai revealed that the shortage of money resulted from the court cases that Kgafela and other Bakgatla chiefs have.  Kgafela holds monthly meetings to brief Bakgatla on developments concerning their village and the Saturday meeting focused on the thousands of Pula that Kgafela has to pay at the courts.  However, only a few Bakgatla who attended the meeting suggested that cattle be donated to the tribal kraal at Masama.  They all agreed that they don't want to see their kgosi suffering or being jailed on account of failure to pay the court charges. They agreed that this should be done in advance to avoid chaos. Kgafela did not attend the meeting and was said to be at his father's house in Tlokweng, commonly known as Ko Ntsweng. Kgafela's sister, Seingwaeng, attended the meeting.
