Kedikilwe explains why foreigner heads Debswana

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe told Parliament yesterday that it was necessary to hire a foreigner as managing director of Debswana in 2010.

He said that they head hunted for a candidate that would be suitable for the undertaking of the Jwaneng Cut 8 project, which he described as the largest capital investment ever by the company.

"The company requires a candidate with experience in global mining operations and possesses specific leadership and mining skills to lead the company in the implementation of its critical project and turning around of Debswana mines to world class operations including mentoring of citizen managers to lead the company in the future," he said.
