The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila has said harmonisation of land use and joint management of shared ecosystems will promote tourism growth through increased trans-border opportunities.

Speaking at the official opening of the Kavango-Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA-TFCA) secretariat in Kasane on Friday, the minister stated that KAZA-TFCA would promote investment and infrastructure development to support both conservation and tourism industry.

He said though the initiative is conservation based, it has the potential to promote cultural linkages, peace, security and regional integration. KAZA-TFCA is a conservation and development initiative promoted by Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Mokaila said the five countries signed a treaty two weeks ago at the SADC Summit in Angola on how they will run KAZA-TFCA. The minister said the overall objective is to ensure that the KAZA-TFCA members' diverse natural resources are conserved and utilised in a sustainable manner.
