Kaunda's son Panji expelled from UPND

LUSAKA: Former President Kenneth Kaunda's eldest eldest son Lt-Col Panji Kaunda has been expelled from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) for violating the constitution.

Col Kaunda was a long-standing member of the party. But when the expulsion was announced, he was defiant: "This is a free country and the UPND has a right to expel whoever they want to expel. I am currently busy campaigning for my candidate," he said. He said he would not fight the decision because his pact was with the people and not any political party and he did not have the time to discuss the matter because he was busy in the field.

Speaking in Livingstone on April 23, when he launched the "People's Pact Forum" (PPF), a support group for the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) Kaunda repeated that his expulsion from the UPND had not affected his political career in any way but had only strengthened him and in him the party had lost a good organiser.
