Three former Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officers serving time for the murder of John Kalafatis will today make oral submissions in a bid to get their freedom.

Goitshosamang Sechele, Ronny Matako and Boitshoko Maifala will today submit their bail appeal application before Justice David Newman who convicted them early this year. Another BDF military intelligence officer Dzikamani Mothobi was freed on bail pending appeal in August by Justice David Newman.

Mothobi was convicted as an accessory after the murder in the Kalafatis case. In granting Mothobi his freedom Newman said it would be prejudicial to keep Mothobi in prison, as there are possibilities that he might have served his sentence by the time the January session of Court of Appeal begins. He said the other three convicts are currently serving lengthier sentences and as such would not suffer any prejudice.
