Justice: When foul is fair

In our edition of Thursday 14 February (yesterday), we published a letter under the headline 'Justice: When fair is foul', in which a reader faults judgement of Justice Key Dingake when he granted bail, pending appeal, to Elvidge Mhlauli.

It has been brought to our attention that the said letter carries imputation of wrongful conduct on the part of the honourable judge. If such imputation exists it is regretted and retracted.

Our role was merely to allow the public to debate the perception of conflict of interest and to offer a platform to dialogue on the Mhlauli case, which has been a very topical case. We invited robust debate and indeed we got some robust debaters. However it was not our intention to assail or question Justice Dingake's professional integrity
