Justice Monageng appointed to The Hague

Justice Sanji Monageng has been elected to serve as a judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague.

She is one of two Africans elected in New York this week out of six appointees, the other one being Joyce Aluoch of Kenya. Others are Shahabuddeen Mohamed of Guyana, Saiga Fumiko (Japan), Tarfusser Cuno (Italy) and Van Den Wyngaert Christine (Belgium).

Justice Monageng was elected under "List B" of judges who are said to have competence in relevant areas of international, humanitarian as well as human rights law at the first resumption of the seventh session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.
