Judge Orders Robber To Get Trial Records

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Modiri Letsididi has ordered that a robbery convict should be given the case record from the magistrate's court.

The High Court judge said he has prioritised the appeal of Caiphus Atlholang and that is why he ordered the record should be availed to both parties on March 13. The hearing will be on March 18. Reneetswe Rabosotho for the state told the court that he received the typed record from the chief magistrate Lorraine Makati-Lesang.

He said even though the record is fully typed, there were some mistakes. Rabosotho explained that the clerk of court has been called to make the necessary corrections. "I humbly pray for an order directing that both parties be availed a record next week Wednesday," prayed Rabosotho. The appellant Atlholang submitted that he had appeared before Justice Letsididi five times for this matter. Atlholang was sentenced to 10 years for robbery by chief magistrate Lorraine Makati-Lesang last March. He was found guilty of robbing a security van of more than P100,000. He has since appealed his conviction and sentence to the High Court.
