Judge dismisses appeal of diamond thief

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Terrence Rannowane has upheld the guilty verdict of a man who stole diamonds from Debswana Mine and tried to sell them in 2009.

Throwing out the appeal, Justice Rannowane said that he was satisfied that the lower court was right in giving a guilty verdict.  "I accordingly dismiss the appeal and confirm the conviction," he said.

The appellant in the matter Obokeng Kealeboga was an employee of Debswana Mining Company at the time of the offence and tried to sell the stolen diamonds in Maun. Police found him in possession of the uncut diamonds after a tip off.
