Joggers warned to watch out for muggers

The police have issued a warning to those who exercise outdoors late in the evenings following complaints of muggers and robbers targeting joggers in Gaborone.

Cases of joggers being robbed of their cellphones while taking an evening run are on the rise along the Sir Seretse Khama Airport road. Sir Seretse Khama police station commander, superintendent Mpho Sebako said they recently recorded three cases.

He said in all the incidents, the victims were attacked and robbed or either their cars being broken into after leaving them by the roadside while taking an evening run. Sebako appealed to members of the public to always go out in pairs or more when jogging and not carry valuables like cellphones. “Recently a woman was attacked by a man who pretended to be jogging, but later returned to rob her of P25,000 cellphone. People train very late along this road,” Sebako said. “The recent matter was reported after 2100hrs.
