JCE crisis: Behind the body count

As the debate on the national education crisis reels on fanned by the dismal Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) results released this week, Staff Writer BABOKI KAYAWE looks at the possible root causes

The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has said that even though there was constant communication between the assessment body and the curriculum division, they do not consider outside factors when setting examinations.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday BEC officials said that if factors like the extent to which students have covered the syllabi and the level of teaching in the classroom were considered in assessment, examinations would change annually to accommodate such. This, they said, was against laid out examination processes and procedures.
