Japan Writes-off Botswana's Debt

Japan has written-off the P125 million debt it was owed by Botswana. In an agreement signed last Thursday in Gaborone between the two countries, Botswana will channel the money supposed to service the debt to poverty alleviation.

The agreement was signed between the Botswana Minister of Finance, Baledzi Gaolathe and Japanese Ambassador to Botswana Ryoichi Matsuyama.

Speaking at the event Gaolathe said that the agreement was not the first to be signed between the two countries. He said with the good relations the two countries have, it was not difficult to agree on how Botswana will utilise the money.
