The corruption trial of Gaborone businessman Sayeed Jamali, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Victor Rantshabeng, and a company called Universal Builders, has been set for next year on dates yet to be confirmed by the court.

Village Chief Magistrate, Lenah Mokibe-Oahile said this after yet another day of arguments between the defence team comprising Sadique Kebonang, Gabriel Kanjabanga, and Tshiamo Rantao and Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) team of Leonard Sechele and Merapelo Mokgosi.

The magistrate also ordered the DPP to furnish the accused persons with statements from Speaker of the National Assembly Margaret Nasha, Mothusi Obakeng and Shadrack Kgomo by end of this month. The alleged crime was committed during a time when Nasha was the Minister of Lands and Housing. The order came after the defence team argued that it would be prejudicial for the accused persons to take pleas before they were furnished with the statements, especially Nasha's, who is a key witness. The defence argued that the accused persons should see the content of the statements and make informed decisions whether to plead guilty.
