Jailbird Convicted For Robbing Prison Officer

FRANCISTOWN: A man has been convicted of robbing a prison officer, two days after he was released from jail.

Innocent Muzerenge and co-accused Simon Binda who had served time for robbery now face 10 years or more in jail if found guilty of assaulting Lesego Lekgoanyana and robbing him of his cell phone on September 29 last year.

They will be sentenced on September 10 by Senior Magistrate Thato Mujaji. During trial, Muzerenge said that Lekgoanyana, a prisons officer framed him as they had differences while he was in jail. His co-accused Binda is said to have led the police to where Muzerenge stayed with his girlfriend in Block 7 in Francistown as he had fled at the time of the incident.
