All roads lead to Lobatse High Court today where a panel of three judges is expected to preside over a political hot potato between President Ian Khama and the man he suspended as Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaledi.

Motswaledi is asking the court to set aside his 60 days suspension and to be reinstated as the party's representative in the Gaborone Central parliamentary elections. Khama's team hopes that the court will stop Motswaledi in his tracks and dismiss the application on a technicality hedged on constitutional immunity. On the other hand Team- Motswaledi hopes the matter will go beyond the technical hurdle to be decided on merits.

Whatever happens in this historic case, history will be made as legal precedent would have to be set. The court is expected to make a pronouncement on the vexing question of whether presidential immunity from legal proceedings is watertight.
