'It is unjust to regulate freedom' - teachers told

LETLHAKANE: A prominent local attorney has told the Botswana Secondary Teachers' Union (BOSETU) annual conference that often people think rights are given to people by the government.

This is a misconception that has to be debunked, said Duma Boko, speaking on 'Trade Union Rights in Botswana and The Violations'. Attorney Duma Boko, BOSETU's legal adviser, also told the teachers that rights are not conferred on anybody by government and said government must recognise, protect and promote fundamental rights.

Boko said there is a provision in the Education Act that states that teachers must not publish or disseminate information freely on matters reasonably deemed administrative or political.
