It could have been worse, Judge tells Zim convict

FRANCISTOWN: A convicted burglar and house breaker's plan to influence High Court Judge, Justice Moses Chinhengo to overturn a 13-year concurrent sentence by a magistrate fell on deaf ears with the judge saying the lower court's judicial officer was "very lenient".

In fact Naison Usayi, a 34-year-old Zimbabwean, who uses a plethora of aliases and had numerous convictions in Botswana, was lucky Chinhengo did not impose a harsher sentence.

Referring to the lenience of the sentence, Chinhengo took note of the fact that the maximum penalty for an offence of that nature is not less than 14 years with corporal punishment.
