Ipeleng tantamount to slavery, charges Boko

Botswana National Front (BNF) president Duma Boko has characterised the government's Ipelegeng programme as nothing but enslavement of the lower class by the ruling elite.

Addressing a political rally in Tlokweng over the weekend, Boko said hapless Batswana work long hours in harsh conditions with no protective clothing to shield them from the sun or injuries while on duty.

"The police have now been given new uniforms so that they can be protected when carrying out their duties, but those at the Ipelegeng programme have nothing but a slasher for cutting the grass with. Surely they deserve protective wear and health insurance for working in such conditions," said Boko.
