Barely a month after its introduction, some suppliers of the diphaphata and drinks for the Ipelegeng Feeding Scheme have raised concerns about the sustainability and profitability of their businesses.

Obonye Maranjane, a caterer for 61 Ipelegeng workers in the Bontleng ward, told The Monitor that she is worried that she may not recoup all her costs at the end of the month.

Maranjane said to feed the 61 workers, she uses over 31kg of flour per week. She said she buys three bags of 12.5kg of flour, which cost close to P80 each, and uses two-and-a-half of the bags in a week.  For the drink, she has opted to buy the workers Oros and alternate it with cheap juices to prevent them from getting too much bile, she said. Maranjane goes through three bottles of Oros a day, she said. At a cost of approximately P20 per bottle for the Oros, she will need to spend P900 for the Oros alone for the 20-day month, and P912 for the flour.
