Ipelegeng contradicts policy - Report

The objective of the Ipelegeng programme - of providing "relief" for the poor and economically vulnerable - is not consistent with current government policy on poverty eradication, according to findings in a draft report on the review of the programme.

The draft report was presented at a consultative workshop in Gaborone yesterday, by the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), the consultants in charge of the report.

According to the report, the Ipelegeng programme, whose main objective is to provide short-term employment, support and relief and supplementary income for unskilled and semi-skilled labour, is not aligned to government's poverty eradication policy.
