Inside the BOTEC drama

The chief executive officer of the Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC) Godfrey Mosimaneotsile said they decided to proceed with retrenchments because funds for the exercise were getting eroded while meetings with workers unions had stalled.

Following a Cabinet directive to liquidate both BOTEC and RIPCO B and merge them into one entity, 51 employees went jobless and their efforts to salvage better exit packages are starting to look hopeless.

Mosimaneotsile explained in an interview with Mmegi that negotiations with the National Amalgamated Local, Central Government and Parastatal Workers Union (NALCGPWU) had started to become frustrating with the union often postponing, and not turning up for meetings.
