Inmates encouraged to use books for rehabilitation

MOSHUPA: Moshupa Boys Prison inmates have been encouraged to use books to learn and develop themselves,

This was a message from the British High Commission during a library book handover held yesterday in the village. The prison holds 213 young offenders between the ages of 17 and 21. According to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Moshupa Boys Prison Anthony Mokento, many of the inmates are currently studying for their junior certificate and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).

He said the donated books which included Mathematics, Science, English textbooks, novels and short stories, would assist the inmates in their studies, reignite their minds and give them a peek into social life. He explained that the prison is also a centre of learning that gives offenders a chance at rehabilitation as they are still young and have a chance to be reintegrated into society and contribute to the economic and human development of the country.
