Inequality at UB rife - Dikobe

Gender Policy Programme Committee (GPPC) chairperson Dr Maude Dikobe has accused the University of Botswana (UB) of "practising occupational segregation" because women are not promoted to deanship.

She said that there is not much to celebrate at UB in terms of gender equality. She acknowledged the first woman to be promoted to the position of deputy vice chancellor is Lydia Nyati-Ramahobo.

However, she wondered why it had taken so long for her to reach that level. She said women and men could be in the same class and excel at high school and university but men excel at work. She wanted to know whether this meant that men were more intelligent.
