Independent humbles mighty BDP

PALAPYE: Independent candidate Charles Mabjeng relegated the mighty Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to second position in a tussle for Lecheng council seat.

Mabjeng trounced his former party with a margin of 341 votes as 852 people cast their ballots in his favour whilst the BDP received 551 votes.  When he allowed himself to be persuaded to stand as an independent candidate against the BDP, skeptics thought that his political career was as good as over. The outcome of the polls proved the skeptics wrong.

He   boldly chose to 'go it alone' after being booted out of the race by a flawed Bulela Ditswe system.
