Incurable TB creeps into Botswana

Almost a year and a half after South Africa announced their cases of extreme drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), the Ministry of Health has also revealed there are two such cases in Botswana.

Principal Health Specialist, Dr Julius Mboya said that these are the first patients in Botswana to be diagnosed. He said that diagnosis was confirmed during the second week of January 2008.

XDR is a mutation of TB and is just as contagious as other strains of TB but virtually untreatable.
