In-service teachers go unpaid

FRANCISTOWN: The Department of Teaching Service Management (TSM) has not paid off-campus allowances to in-service teachers pursuing a Diploma in Primary Education at the Francistown College of Education (FCE). Some in-service teachers have told Mmegi that they have not been paid their end-of-May off-campus allowances of P1 700 per student.

We live in rented accommodation in and around Francistown. Accommodation in this city is very expensive and some of our landlords do not understand our situation, one said, adding that they face eviction. Reached for comment, the Principal of FCE Sir Wonder Masebola said the college was no longer responsible for paying in-service teachers. A senior TSM officer who requested anonymity admitted the delay. The Principal Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Nomsa Zuze, referred enquiries to Acting TSM Director, Philip Tsumake, who happened to be on leave and referred Mmegi to his subordinates.

But Tsumakes subordinates said the matter was outside their mandate.
