Impulsive suspects appear under heavy escort

Two of the four men accused of robbing a bar in Gabane Village last year, appeared before Magistrate Taboka Slave for mention on Friday. The two, who are currently remanded appeared under a heavy escort of prison warders and officers from the police paramilitary unit, Special Support Group.

The accused persons Shilock Mokoni and Silas Hove proved to be violent and spontaneous as on January 21st they escaped from court during proceedings and damaged the doors of the courtroom in the process. Police officers chased and finally re-arrested them.

The two appeared with their co-accused Tebogo Rapalai and Kholisani Sibanda who are currently on bail in a case of armed robbery. The prosecution in the armed robbery case told the court that they would amend the charge sheet and include a second count for Mokoni and Hove who are said to be prohibited immigrants in Botswana.Prosecutor Tyron Mokgathong told the court that even though Mokoni claims he has appealed the decision to declare him a PI to the High Court, they are still going to charge him for entering the country unlawfully.
