Illegal day care centres in Kweneng face closure

All unlicensed day care centres in Kweneng face closure, the chairman of the district council has warned.

Motlhophi Leo told Kweneng District councillors this week that it is time the council takes action against the centres to ensure children's safety. He said the unlicensed centres operate mainly from residential plots, in contravention of the Children's Act of 2009 and the Early Childhood Policy.

The Kweneng District Council (KDC) chairman said the centres have remained unlicensed because they do not meet the health requirements and the fact that they are located in residential plots.
