IEC urges Batswana in Zambia to register

LUSAKA: Botswana's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has urged Batswana living or working in Zambia to participate in the voter registration exercise in Lusaka.

The registration exercise, programmed for October 2-22 is being conducted at the Botswana High Commission, which is located on Pandit Nehru Road, Lusaka. Advertising the voter registration exercise, meant to give Batswana in the Diaspora a chance to vote in the 2009 general elections, the IEC says only bona fide Batswana qualify to register.

"Only citizens of Botswana who shall have attained the age of 18 years and/or above during their last birthday and in possession of a valid national identity card (Omang) will be eligible to register in person."
