IEC Registration Closes In On Target

So far 555,376 voters has been registered against the targeted 650,000 that was set for 2009 general elections.

Addressing the 2009 election candidates and election agents in Gaborone on Saturday, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) director, Gabriel Seeletso, says the figure translates to 85percent of the targeted figure.

"It is therefore imperative that the IEC and its stakeholders form a partnership that will guarantee the attainment of the target," Seeletso said. The supplementary registration will continue until the end of March. It became necessary after a low turn during the initial voter registration.
