IEC official tips election candidates

SELEBI-PHIKWE: A senior Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) official encouraged prospective candidates last week to make thorough preparations for the general elections.

Speaking at a workshop for council candidates for Bobirwa and Mmadinare constituencies, IEC deputy secretary, Martha Sayed said elections are not an event but a process that needs preparations. The meeting was held at the Travel Inn Hotel in Selebi-Phikwe.

Sayed advised all candidates to familiarise themselves with the Electoral Act and observe the code of conduct for elections. She appealed for respect to independent candidates and told speakers at political rallies not to use abusive language or to incite people. She said candidates and their supporters should not obstruct other people and the media from attending and participating in political rallies.
