The saga that has become synonymous with the P500 million Palapye Fengyue Glass Manufacturing project took a new twist yesterday afternoon when the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo, apologised for an error he made in his statement to Parliament two weeks ago.

Matambo told the House on November 18th that he fired three board members to protect the reputation of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and that they were left with just two months before expiry of their contracts, amongst other reasons. The state-owned BDC is in joint venture with Fengyue Glass Company in the Palapye project, which is said to be over 70 percent.

Last Friday however, when tabling a motion to request Parliament to establish a special select committee to investigate the project, Member of Parliament for South East South Odirile Motlhale revealed that one of the board member's contracts was left with two years before expiry, arguing that the minister had misled Parliament.
