Human Rights Committee grills Botswana

The Botswana delegation to the upcoming 92nd session of the Human Rights Committee in New York must be ready with answers for 25 questions arising from an initial report on civil and political rights in the country.

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Right (CCPR) indicates that the list of issues had to be taken up in connection with the consideration of the initial report provided by the Botswana government when more explanations were required.

Botswana has been requested to indicate whether and to what extent the High Court may refer to the covenant while interpreting and implementing provisions of the Botswana Bill of rights. Botswana is to inform the Human Rights Committee on the level of knowledge by members of the judiciary and law enforcement officials about the provisions of the covenant.
