How far will Motswaledi's hearing be?

There are fears that the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Disciplinary Committee (DC), which is adjudicating on the Motswaledi hearing, will not fairly apply itself.

The concern comes from the fact that the DC is one of the sub-committees of the central committee whose appointment by party president Ian Khama was questioned by Gomolemo Motswaledi.

The suspended secretary general of the BDP questioned the authority of Khama to appoint the sub-committee and five additional members of the Central Committee. It was raising such queries that landed Motswaledi in trouble after the Chairman of the Publicity sub-committee of the BDP, Shaw Kgathi, reported him to the DC.  Kgathi accused Motswaledi of conducting himself "in office in a manner that brings discredit and disrepute to the party in that contrary to Article 6 of the party, he has failed to show high political and moral qualities and selfless dedication to the cause of the party, which is the cause of the people".
