House to resume debate on Saleshando's assets motion

Parliament will resume debate today on a motion calling for the disclosure of assets and liabilities by all national leaders. Gaborone Central Member of Parliament (MP) Dumelang Saleshando tabled the motion last week, seeking the necessary go-ahead to present a private member's bill on the matter.

Contributing to the debate, Molepolole South MP, Daniel Kwelagobe said even though he did not support the bill, Saleshando should be allowed to present it and should not be rejected outrightly.

The veteran MP said that they had long stated in Parliament  that MPs should not be made to table motions to request to present  private members' bills.  Kwelagobe said MPs should just table their private members' bill instead of being made to go through the laborious process of tabling a motion to seek to present a bill.
