House of Hope gets temporary relief

PALAPYE: The African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Programme (ACHAP) has given House of Hope Centre for Orphans in Palapye a new lease of life.

ACHAP provided much-needed funding to the orphanage, which was facing closure because of donor fatigue.
House of Hope is home to 85 orphans. The centre's acting coordinator Thamsanqa Metsing said it was on the verge of closure due to lack of funds after the departure of its main donor PCI. He said they are currently left with ACHAP whose contract comes to an end at the end of this month. "We lost key personnel and we are currently running without a coordinator, social worker and project officer due to donor fatigue," he said.

Metsing added however that they are currently in a dialogue with ACHAP to extend the contract though they have to satisfy certain requirements by the donor. He hoped that they partnership with ACHAP will go beyond October."We almost closed down but a miracle happened when the Kingdom Embassy Church and Mokungwana Batloung Church gave us a lifeline in the form of a donation of P10,000 and P2,000 respectively," he added. The money was used to feed the children at the centre. House of Hope also received a donation of winter clothes from Yarona FM. Metsing said to keep House of Hope afloat they had to conduct fund raising campaigns, in the form of a football tournament between local football teams, which was sponsored by local companies subcontracted to Morupule B project construction.
