Parliament on Wednesday deferred a bill, which proposes to make some amendments to the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) Act.

Some of the amendments the bill seeks include the need to have the BMC financial year ended on December 31st instead of the current September 30th.  "The amendment will align the current practice with the Act," reads part of the bill.

It also seeks to amend Section 9 of the Act to increase the outlay of the capital investment requiring consent from the Minister Account from P500,000 to P2 million.  The justification for this amendment is that P500,000 is too low, considering market prices.
