Hospital gives condoms to married people only

The Seventh Day Adventist Mission Hospital in Kanye has come under fire for an alleged practice of providing condoms to married people only.

This matter was brought to light by some employees when they aired their grievances to the Health and HIV and AIDS Committee from parliament, that visited the hospital to lend an ear to workers' concerns. The condoms are said to be stored in an office and those who want them consult first, Mmegi has learnt. They are said to be inaccessible to both staff members and members of the public. This practice is allegedly grounded in the Christian religious teaching that it is a sin for unmarried people to engage in sexual intercourse.

Meanwhile, another employee complained that the government has overlooked them and failed to commend them for not joining the national civil strike orchestrated by Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions last year. She said that they had been expecting to be promoted after they heard from the grapevine that individuals who did not partake in the strike were promoted on those grounds.
