The National Amalgamated Local, Central Government and Parastatal Manual Workers' Union has welcomed the appointment of a presidential commission to review public service salaries. Samuel Molaodi from the union said the appointment is a good move and must be used as an opportunity to raise public service salaries. "The cost of living has gone up. Look at petrol and prices of consumer goods. Besides, government is losing a lot of trained manpower because of low salaries."

However, president of the Botswana Federation of Trade Unions Japhta Radibe is worried that implementation of findings of such commissions usually take long. He said he did not place much faith in the commissions.
"Government should introduce collective bargaining and negotiation forums instead of commissions," he stated.

The MP for Gaborone Central and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) publicity secretary, Dumelang Saleshando cast doubt on the composition of the team, saying almost all its members are products of macro-economics who are unresponsive to any new thinking.
"We need a more competent and relevant commission," he said.
