Lobatse High Court judge, Gabriel Rwelengera, will give a ruling later this month on the urgency of an application in which the Liquor Traders (LTA) Association is seeking an interdict to bar the government from closing their businesses at the times indicated by new regulations.

On Tuesday, the court session went on until after hours as the attorneys for the applicants and the government argued. Bar owners insist that they are entitled to operate under the hours stipulated on their old licences until they expire.

However, deputy Attorney General, Abraham Keetshabe, is opposing the application on the basis that it is not urgent. Keetshabe said the liquor association has no legal standing to  sue the government on behalf of liquor traders. He has pleaded with the court to dismiss the application with costs.
