Health professionals pour scorn on BHPC threat

The Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) has been accused of playing politics by threatening to de-register striking nurses and doctors on strike to appease government.

Responding to BHPC chairman Dr Joseph Makhema's statement released this week on the de-register threat, Botswana Junior Doctors' Association spokesman Dr Odirile Bakae said yesterday that the council must be acting on the instructions of some powerful hand to "tell us they will de-register us, as a ploy to cow us into going back to work and forsaking the strike. We will do no such thing," he said.
