Group sex trial resumes next year

The sensational group sex trial of five Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldiers and two Special Constables accused of indecently assaulting Zimbabweans staying in Ramotswa is set to continue next year.

On Friday, a Broadhurst magistrate postponed the matter to late January to give the defence time to study the court record.  The defence counsels are expected to make a submission of no case to answer.  The state has already closed its case after the last witness testified.

The witness was a police officer who conducted an identification parade to identify the accused persons.  During the last hearing, the witness was cross-examined by the defence attorneys who expressed concern about the manner in which the parade was conducted. The accused persons are Samuel Seshabo, Pako Tlhabaki, Thato Bojosi, Moagi Samson and Kodziba Balopi who are all soldiers; and Special Constables Sidney Ntope and Phetogo Ganakobo. They are represented by Busang Manewe, Tshiamo Rantao, Oduetse Langwane and Batsho Nthoi.
